Dr. Shi Vigyan Kendra, Mansa to promote ancillary businesses. Under the able leadership of Gurdeep Singh Deputy Director Training Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mansa from 4.12.2023 to 08.12.2023, a five-day vocational training course was conducted on “Cultivation and Processing of Mushrooms”. During the training, Dr. B.S. Senkhon, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mansa, while addressing the trainees, encouraged them to increase their income by taking up auxiliary occupations. Along with this, he shared basic information about the importance and cultivation of button and Dhingri mushrooms with the students. The trainees were given theoretical as well as practical training on button mushroom composting and Dhingri mushroom cultivation. Along with this, tropical mushrooms (straw mushroom and milky mushroom) and poisonous mushrooms were also introduced. Aspects of economics and processing were also shared with the trainees during the training programme. During the course, the trainees were given a visit to Sidhu Khumb Farm, Kalipur Mansa where the length and width of the shed, the material used for making the shed, the machine developed for digging pits, the small method of compost preparation (through chamber and tunnel) And practical information was given on envelope stuffing machine, envelope cutting and packing. Dr. Sekhon introduced the students to the family of Paramjit Singh Kalipur and told that the success of the Khumb farm run by him is due to the support of his family. He told how the whole family together helps each other in the preservation of mushrooms, plucking, washing and cutting the mushrooms and then packing them. Along with the training, the trainees also bought mushrooms from Paramjit Singh’s farm and shouted yes to continue the work. At the end of the program an examination was also conducted to check the knowledge of the trainees in which 90 percent of the trainees scored more than 80 percent and supported the adoption of mushroom production as a subsidiary business. 15 farmers and farmer wives from different villages of Mansa district participated in this training program.
