Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bahowal, Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, and ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, organized a field day in village Khanpur on February 14, 2024, to spotlight the success of cluster frontline demonstrations and promote canola gobhi sarson cultivation in the region.
Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Hoshiarpur, engaged with farmers to elucidate the purpose of these demonstrations, focusing on the canola cultivar GSC 7 and its cultivation techniques, pest management, oil extraction, and the health benefits of canola oil. Additionally, he addressed the management strategies for yellow rust disease in wheat, enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills.
Technical lectures were delivered by experts from KVK Hoshiarpur during the program. Dr Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), encouraged farmers to consider value addition and cooperative processing of agricultural produce to optimize farming benefits. Dr Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), shared insights on integrated nutrition gardening and mushroom cultivation, providing farmers with valuable knowledge for diversifying their agricultural practices. The event also saw summer vegetable kits and informative literature distribution to the attending farmers, further supporting their agricultural endeavors.
S Jaspal Singh, a progressive farmer from the village, expressed gratitude to all the experts for their informative lectures and commended the farmers for their active participation in the field day’s proceedings.
