According to the guidelines of the Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, demonstrations of direct sowing of paddy have been organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur during the campaign to save ground water and labor. Which were inspected today by the team of KVK, Sangrur by reaching Bir Kalan and Dhadrian villages and the farmers were given information about fertilizer and weed management. Giving more information about this, Associate Director (Training) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur. Mandeep Singh said that 10-20% of water can be saved with the direct sowing technique of paddy. With this technique, 10-12% more water is recharged in the land and the yield of the next wheat crop is up to one quintal per acre. He said that the second fortnight of June is very suitable for direct sowing of Basmati varieties. On the occasion of inspecting these exhibits, Dr. Rukinder Preet Singh Dhaliwal, Assistant Professor (Crop Science) informed the farmers about proper fertilizer and weed management. He said that permal varieties of direct seeded paddy should be applied in three equal installments of 130 kg urea per acre at an interval of 4, 6 and 9 weeks after sowing. For weed control, recommended herbicides should be sprayed at the 1-4 leaf stage depending on the type of weed. Dr. Sunil Kumar Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) asked to favor the use of Lucky Seed Drill for direct sowing of paddy. Because with this machine there is also a provision of spraying herbicide along with sowing. All the farmers expressed their satisfaction and happiness with the demonstrations of direct sowing of paddy conducted with the technical support of KVK, Sangrur.
