An awareness seminar was conducted at Government Senior Secondary School, Dittupur, Patiala on 7th November, 2023 under the campaign to prevent paddy stubble burning by Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Patiala. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala organized an awareness rally to create awareness among the students about the harm caused by burning paddy stubble and also organized speeches, essay writing and painting competitions. Various competitions were held under the supervision of scientists and school staff of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The students participated enthusiastically in these competitions and the visiting guests also felicitated the winning students to encourage them. The speaker of the seminar Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur, Professor (Domestic Science) and Incharge, KVK, Patiala said. By giving information about the damage caused by burning stubble, the students were motivated to play a responsible role in this awareness campaign. Dr. Rajni Goyal, Professor (Food Science) and Dr. Rachna Singla, Professor (Horticulture), KVK Patiala elaborated on the various techniques adopted for handling paddy stubble. He inspired the students to bring changes in agricultural practices to save the environment as per the need of the hour. Dr. Rajni Goyal shared information about the damage caused by junk food. Dr. Rachna Singla gave information about the use of paddy straw in mushroom cultivation. On this occasion, a skit was also presented by the students giving the message not to burn straw. At the end of the program, the principal, Dr. Amritpal Kaur thanked the experts who came and assured to give full support to this campaign.
