16 August 2024. Carrot Grass (Parthenium hystrophorus) Awareness and Management Week was inaugurated at Norman E. Borlaug, Crop Research Center, under the chairmanship of Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean Agriculture Dr. Shivendra Kashyap, in which Director Research Dr. Ajit Singh Nain, Head of Department, Department of Agronomy Dr. Subhash Chandra; Joint Director, Crop Research Center, Breeder Seed Production Center, CGM Farm, Dr. Rajesh Pratap Singh, Dr. Anand Singh Jeena and Agronomy Professors Dr. D.K. Singh, Dr. Gurvinder Singh, Dr. (Mrs.) Sunita T. Pandey, Director Training and Planning Dr. M.S. Negi, Dr. J.P. Purwar, Professor Entomology, Dr. Vinod Balyan, about 20 students from France participated. The meeting was conducted by Dr. (Mrs.) Vineeta Rathore, Assistant Professor. The seminar was organized under the All India Coordinated Weed Research Project in which the Professor of the project, Dr. Tej Pratap welcomed all the guests and informed the citizens about the organization of Carrot Grass Awareness Week and the damage caused to humans, animals and the environment by carrot grass. Project Officer Dr. S.P. Singh said that due to the infestation of this weed, about 60-70 percent of crops are being damaged in Australia and in India too, in non-cultivated and cultivated areas, the damage caused by the weed alone is such as dermatitis, allergy, skin disease, hay fever and asthma (breathing) diseases in humans and animals eating carrot grass causes a decrease and toxicity in the milk of animals. Dr. Singh also released a video in which various activities done in the carrot grass awareness and eradication programs from the year 2004 to 2023 were demonstrated. This program is organized every year from 16 to 22 August across the country. Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean Agriculture Dr. Shivendra Kashyap said that the problem of carrot grass can be solved by running a collective campaign. Director Research Dr. Ajit Nain explained the importance of Carrot Grass Awareness Campaign and said that participation of Joint Directors and students of all the research centers of the university is necessary. Head of the Department Dr. Subhash Chandra highlighted the participation of teachers, students, farmers and general public of the department and told the need to run such programs continuously. About 150 people participated in the program. At the end of the program, Dr. Vinita Rathore thanked everyone for their participation.
