25th April 2024, Kolkata ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fiber Engineering and Technology, Kolkata organised World Intellectual Property Day on the theme ‘IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity’ today.
World Intellectual Property Day, established in 2000 by the World Intellectual Property Organization, is annually celebrated on April 26th to highlight the impact of patents, copyrights, trademarks, and designs on daily life and to celebrate creativity and the contributions of creators to global economies and societies.
Dr. S. B. Roy, In-Charge, ITMU and PI-ABI emphasized the importance of the IP Day celebration with the view of 17 Sustainable Developmental Goals. He also highlighted the potential of intellectual property in promoting a more inclusive and sustainable future.
Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, spoke about the present scenario of IP Protection in the Indian context concerning global issues.
Advocate Anjan Sen, ICAR Empaneled Patent Attorney, emphasized the fine-tuning with the scientists and techno-legal intermingling about their official disclosure of the inventions. He also added that IP will be the sign of future development of any society soon which will comply with the satisfaction and needs of the people.
Dr. Sushil Kumar Mitra, Former Deputy Controller, Patent & Design, briefed the significance of pro-biotic, nano-polymer, and bio-detection kits in achieving the inter-disciplinary SDG of people, economics, environments, and sustainability.
An interactive session followed the lectures, offering attendees an opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and seek clarifications on IP-related issues fostering collaboration and synergy among stakeholders committed to achieving the SDGs through innovative solutions.
A total of 50 participants attended the programme.
