The Skill Development Centre, under the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, conducted a comprehensive five-day training course on Vegetable Cultivation, including hydroponics, soilless, rooftop, and poly house methods. The training, held from July 22 to 26, 2024, was aimed at farmers and farm women of Punjab, providing them with valuable skills and knowledge to enhance their vegetable cultivation practices.

Under the expert guidance of Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, Dr Kuldeep Singh, Associate Director of Skill Development, the course emphasized the importance of organic vegetables for health. Dr Singh highlighted the feasibility of growing vegetables even in limited spaces, such as rooftops, encouraging participants to adopt innovative cultivation methods.

The training featured valuable insights from experts from the Departments of Soil and Water Engineering and Vegetable Science at PAU. Dr Prerna Kapila, the course coordinator, and Dr Dilpreet Singh emphasized the significance of the training in promoting sustainable and healthy vegetable cultivation practices.

Subject experts, including Dr Ruma Devi, Dr Shailesh Jindal, Dr Rajinder Dhall, Dr Rupit Kaur Gill, Dr Barinder Kaur, Dr Syed Patel, Dr Sukhjit Kaur, and Dr Abhishek Sharma from the Department of Vegetable Science, along with Dr Nishesh Bivalkar, Dr Jugraj Singh, Dr Angrej Singh, Dr Sudhir Thaman, and Dr Mahesh Chand Singh from the Department of Soil and Water Engineering, provided comprehensive knowledge on various aspects of vegetable cultivation.

The course also included practical sessions, where trainees visited the experimental field areas of the Department of Soil and Water Engineering and the Department of Vegetable Science at PAU. These visits provided hands-on experience and practical understanding, enhancing the trainees’ learning experience.

The training concluded with a vote of thanks from Mrs Kanwaljit Kaur, who expressed gratitude to the trainees and the experts. She encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge gained during the course to their professional practices.
