26 October 2024. The four-day training program on ‘Integrating Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture into the Food System’ was concluded by the Department of Agricultural Communication of the College of Agriculture in collaboration with the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Hyderabad at the university. The closing session of the program was attended by Chief Guest Dean, College of Agriculture Dr. S. K. Kashyap, Deputy Director (Gender Studies) from MANAGE Hyderabad Dr. Vinita Kumari (Online), and Head of the Department of Agricultural Communication Dr. V.L.V. Kameshwari and many other distinguished guests. The program was coordinated by Dr. Arpita Sharma Kandpal, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Communication.
During the training, lectures were given by ten subject experts on various topics, including basic principles of nutrition, problems of malnutrition, role of agriculture and allied sectors in food and nutrition security, nutrition-sensitive agriculture for sustainable development, gender inclusive agriculture and nutrition and effective designing of nutrition-sensitive activities. Apart from this, the participants were taken on a tour of various research centers, apple and dragon fruit orchards, which gave them an opportunity to understand the practical aspects of training. In the closing session, the participants also shared their experiences. After this, certificates were given to the participants by the guests. On this occasion, Dr. Vinita Kumari appreciated the design of the program and shared her experiences with everyone. Dr. V.L.V. Kameshwari also expressed her views and highlighted the importance of communication in promoting nutrition-sensitive agriculture and said that such training programs are necessary to increase awareness among the people. Dr. S.K. Kashyap appreciated the cooperation of everyone in the success of the program and inspired the participants to use their knowledge for the benefit of their communities. At the end of the program, all the guests, subject experts, faculty members and participants were thanked for their invaluable contribution. This program proved to be an excellent platform to promote knowledge in nutrition-sensitive agriculture and encourage such cooperation, which will prove helpful in sustainable development in agriculture and nutrition. A total of 23 participants took part in the training program, which included participants from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur etc.
