The Department of Vegetable Science at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, was visited by Dr D S Cheema, former dean College of Agriculture and Dr J S Kanwar, Former Head, Department of Vegetable Science. They interacted with the serving faculty. Before joining Dean, Dr Cheema worked in the same department as Head. Nostalgically, both the stalwarts recalled his priceless memories and feel at ancestral home.

While congratulating the faculty, Dr Cheema shared his valuable experiences being a vegetable scientist and encouraging them to strive for excellence through dedication. Further he advocated the adoption of cutting-edge molecular breeding techniques to expedite the progress of breeding initiatives in vegetable crops for sustainable supply and production of vegetables.

Being a vegetable breeder and seed scientist, Dr Kanwar, during interaction, inspired the scientists to develop practical aptitude while emphasizing the significance of punctuality and perseverance to accomplish more in life.

Both the vegetable stalwart scientists appreciated the quintessential on-going overall departmental work. While visiting the vegetable demonstration area, they appreciated newly developed varieties particularly Punjab Lalima of red okra and coloured carrot varieties which will play an instrumental role in up-keeping the health and management of various life styled diseases. Further, they hailed the research work on kitchen gardening models developed for different stakeholders. To get more production per unit area, vertical farming, especially staking of cucurbits is also appreciated by them.

Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Head, Department of Vegetable Science, introduced the stalwarts and their accomplishments. The interactive session proved to be an enlightening experience for the faculty, leaving them motivated and eager to excel in their academic and research endeavors.
