ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Rohtak Centre organized the ‘Fish Farmers Day and Farmers Meet/Awareness Program on Feed Developed for Inland Saline Aquaculture’ on 14 July 2024. About 150 farmers from Haryana, Rajasthan, and, Punjab as well as officials from the State Fisheries Department, participated in the program. The program started by paying floral tributes to Dr Hiralal Chaudhuri and Dr K.H. Alikhuni by the dignitaries. Dr M.A. Pathan, OIC, CIFE Rohtak Centre, welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. During the program, farmers were informed about the importance of quality seeds and how to choose them. They were informed about shrimp aquaculture management, emphasizing feed and disease management. Dr N.P. Sahu, Joint Director gave detailed information about the Feed Developed for Inland Saline Aquaculture by ICAR-CIFE under the aegis of the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP). Dr Ravishankar C. N., Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-CIFE, addressing the gathering informed the various technologies developed by the CIFE for improving Inland Saline Aquaculture. He assured the farmers about cooperation and handholding by ICAR-CIFE, Rohtak Centre for inland saline aquaculture. The farmers interacted with the scientific and technical staff of CIFE and the State Fisheries Department officials and discussed various issues and strategies to overcome these challenges. Farmers requested that the State Fisheries Department Officials arrange training programs on various aspects of fish and shrimp aquaculture in collaboration with CIFE. Farmers thanked the Director of CIFE and all scientists and staff of the CIFE Rohtak Centre for the support the Institute is extending to them.

During the program, M/S Falcon Feeds Bhubaneswar, a fish feed company, signed a MoU with ICARCIFE for the commercial development of Feed Developed for Inland Saline Aquaculture by the CIFE. The Managing Director of Falcon Feeds assured the farmers that the feed production would start as soon as possible and would be available to them.

Dr K. Mohanty, Head of FNBP Division, Dr Shrinivas Jahageerdar, Nodal Officer of All Centers of CIFE, Dr Sreedharan K. Scientist, along with other scientific and technical staff of ICAR-CIFE Rohtak Centre participated in the program. Dr Pankaj Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
