PAU – K.V.K. Jalandhar (Nurmahal) hosted a significant field day 28.05.2024, attended by 70 farmers. The event focused on providing specialized knowledge about vegetable crops, emphasizing eco-friendly mite management. Experts from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana’s Department of Entomology, and other specialists interacted with farmers, addressing their questions and offering valuable suggestions.
Dr. Manmeet Brar Bhullar, Principal Acarologist, delivered a key lecture on identifying and managing mites in protected cultivation environments in Punjab. She discussed damage symptoms, precautionary measures, natural enemies, and effective mite management strategies in greenhouses. Dr. Paramjit Kaur, Acarologist, provided insights on managing mite infestations in open field crops like okra and brinjal, helping farmers protect their yields and ensure produce quality.
Additional experts delivered comprehensive lectures on various agricultural aspects. Dr. Balvir Kaur, Assistant Professor of Horticulture, emphasized the nutritional value and cultivation of vegetables for personal use. Dr. Prabhjit Kaur, Assistant Professor of Agronomy, highlighted the importance of proper fertilizer use and mulching in vegetable crops to maximize yields and minimize environmental impact. Dr. Rupinder Chandel, Assistant Professor of Agricultural Engineering, discussed the benefits of using modern planting machinery over traditional methods. Dr. Harwinder Singh Buttar, Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology, explained the significance of seed quality and treatment in enhancing crop yield and protecting against diseases.
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Kataria, Deputy Director (Trg.) of K.V.K. Jalandhar, underscored the importance of cultivating PAU-recommended varieties and encouraged farmers to connect with the agricultural department and stay updated through PAU’s social media platforms. He thanked the farmers for their active participation and commitment to improving agricultural practices.
