In a bid to empower farm women with valuable skills and knowledge, four consecutive vocational trainings on beekeeping were conducted, proving to be a transformative experience for 270 participants. Spanning from January 18, 2024, to February 9, 2024, each training session lasted five days, offering comprehensive insights into the art and science of apiculture.
These enlightening sessions were orchestrated by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, under the discerning direction of Dr. Makhan Singh Bhullar, the Director of Extension Education, PAU Ludhiana. Dr. Vinay Singh, with the able guidance of Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Bathinda, steered the trainings, ensuring participants received expert guidance throughout.
Funded by the Punjab State Rural Livelihood Mission (PSRLM), a poverty alleviation initiative under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, these trainings aimed to equip farm women with practical skills in beekeeping. The curriculum encompassed various facets of apiculture, ranging from the day-to-day management of apiaries to the processing and marketing of bee products.
The impact of these trainings will be extended far beyond the classroom, fostering a newfound sense of confidence and capability among the participants. With newfound skills in beekeeping, these farm women are poised to embark on a journey towards economic self-sufficiency, symbolizing the transformative power of education and empowerment in rural development.
