28th October 2024, Narendrapur and Kendrapara
In a united endeavor to uplift farmers impacted by Cyclone DANA in West Bengal and Odisha, the ICAR-Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Narendrapur (West Bengal), and the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kendrapara (Odisha), in collaboration with the Reliance Foundation and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, organised two separate farmers’ empowerment programmes in hybrid mode today. The initiatives focused on providing e-Agroadvisory and designed to help farmers navigate the complexities of post-DANA cyclone recovery.
Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, underscored that the people-centric approach of Jan Bhagidari is essential to empowering communities during challenging times, especially in minimizing further losses in different agricultural sectors. By leveraging technology and fostering collaboration, Dr Dey stated that the programme aims to disseminate valuable knowledge to a broader audience, equipping them with the insights necessary to safeguard their livelihoods and igniting hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
Representatives from the Reliance Foundation expressed their satisfaction with the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting it. An engaging Q&A session provided farmers with an opportunity to seek advice and discuss solutions to their concerns, creating a truly interactive experience.
About 147 farmers from West Bengal and 280 from Odisha participated in the programme and served as a beacon of support and shared knowledge, illuminating the path forward in their journey toward post-DANA cyclone recovery.
