In order to develop sustainable crop varieties with tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, researchers must address emerging new diseases and pests, as well as climate change. Marker assisted backcrossing (MABC) is one of the most promising approaches, as it uses molecular markers to identify and select genotypes having gene of interest. In this regard, MABC can help to generate resistant, high-yielding, or high-quality rice varieties by pyramiding of important stress tolerant genes into an elite variety. This technology reduces the efforts of time and resources to breeders in rectify the defects in farmers accepted variety. MABC is now frequently utilized in plant breeding operations to generate novel varieties/lines, particularly in rice. Under this back drop, two days Workshop is envisaged under SERB Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) Policy so as to acquaint researcher/faculty members of the institutes Universities/colleges to further update their respective clienteles.
