Country Representative-India, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Sri Lanka and Former Deputy Director General (NRM), ICAR, Dr. A. K. Sikka visited ICAR-CCARI, Goa on 20 July 2023. Dr. A. K. Sikka was received and welcomed by ICAR-CCARI team, which was followed by an Interaction Meet with the scientists of the Institute and SMS, KVK, North Goa.
“Solarization in agriculture, climate-smart technologies for climate resilient agriculture, and integrated farming systems research are key coastal agricultural research areas”, said Dr. A. K. Sikka. He expressed his appreciation for the Institute’s significant advancement in coastal agricultural research. He suggested a few pragmatic action points to expand linkages with other organizations to research in coastal regions.
During the Interaction Meet, the Director of ICAR-CCARI, Dr. Parveen Kumar, briefed about the Institute significant achievements in the past few years and plans for the future. “ICAR-CCARI looks forward to undertaking collaborative research with IWMI on water research in the coastal region of India”, he said. Dr. Sujeet Desai, Scientist (LWME) presented soil and water research achievement of the past two decades and put forth areas for collaborative research. The scientists and SMS, KVK, interacted with Dr. A. K. Sikka on several researchable issues.
The visit and programme was coordinated by Dr. Gopal Mahajan, Dr. Sujeet Desai, Shri Sidharth Marathe, Smt. Pranjali Wadekar and Smt. Lizette Noronha.
