The ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Institute (IIHR) Bangalore organized off campus training programme on “ICAR-IIHR Technologies” at Coimbatore for the tribal farmers of Coimbatore districts of Tamil Nadu under TSP programme on 14th September,2024. The programme was started with welcome address by Dr.Murugan, Director of Extension Education, TNAU, Coimbatore.
The programme was inaugurated by Director Dr.T.K.Behara, ICAR- IIHR, Bengaluru. Further, he empathised the use of various farmers friendly ICAR-IIHR technologies for double the income. Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist and Member of TSP Programme of the project. Dr. V. Sankar, Principal Scientist explained suitable ICAR-IIHR technologies for tribal farmers of Valparai, Metupalayam and Nilagiri hills including vegetables, fruits, medicinal plants, bio fertilizers and bio pesticides.
The beneficiary farmers were taken to the various demonstration blocks, Orchard, Nursery unit of TNAU-Coimbatore. Farmer scientist interaction meeting was also held and all doubts were cleared. This programme was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Senthil kumar, Pprincipal Scientist, Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Regional station, Coimbatore . This programme was attended by 60 tribal farmers of various parts of the Coimbatore district of Valpari and Nilgiri hills along with staff of Department of Horticulture, Farmers Producers organisation of Coimbatore.
