27th April 2024, Kochi ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, in collaboration with Stem Systems Pvt. Ltd and Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kochi organised a capacity building-cum-demonstration programme on mud-crab farming on today at Cheppanam, Kochi. Stem Systems Pvt. Ltd is a start-up in fish farming and aquaculture activities nurtured by ICAR-CCARI and KUFOS, Kochi under the agri-business incubation programme.

The training programme covered sessions on mud crab farming, biology, and breeding technology. The recent advances in mud crab fattening technology using designed FRP barrels were demonstrated to farmers in the fish cage cum crab fattening unit established in the Vembanad estuary near Cheppanam.

Participants learned about crab culture, crab fattening units, practical crab identification, sexual dimorphism, water crab handling, size grading, deformity detection, packing, and marketing.

About 50 farmers including 10 women, entrepreneurs and students participated in the training programme.
