Farmers on Production, Storage and Utilization of Quality Silage for Dairy Cattle at Lehragaga by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur and Fodder, Millet and Nutrition Section, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, PAU in collaboration with Genius Farmer Producer Company Limited, Punjab Agricultural University. A training camp was organized. In which about 70 farmers from different villages participated.
At the beginning of this training camp Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Kheri welcomed the farmers and informed about the activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and various training courses. He asked farmers to refrain from commercial cultivation of summer maize, which is sown after wheat, to produce adherable crops, as it also undermines water conservation efforts. He also encouraged the farmers to reduce unnecessary farm expenditure and read agricultural literature published by PAU.
Dr. Ranjit Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Fodder Millet and Nutrition, PAU Ludhiana interacted with farmers on green fodder selection, site selection, fodder sowing method, harvesting time and silage method to produce good quality silage. Detailed information given. He also told the farmers about the points to be kept in mind while making pickle from fodder. They also shared how to check the quality of silage after it is ready and how to use it properly. They also explained about the proper use of silage according to the animal. After this, he answered the questions asked by the farmers regarding silage.
Dr. Rukinder Preet Singh Dhaliwal, Assistant Professor (Crop Science) shared ideas on weed and fertilizer management in paddy and basmati with the farmers. He informed the farmers about the signs of zinc and iron deficiency in paddy and its proper management.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Farm Machinery) informed the farmers about the beneficial use of available farm machinery for paddy stubble management.
