A three-day virtual training on ‘Goat Rearing as a Profitable Business’ was organized from June 20-22, 2024 under the joint aegis of the University’s Sameti- Uttarakhand (Directorate of Extension Education) and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad. In the inaugural session of the virtual training, Director Extension Education Dr. Jitendra Kwatra said that goat rearing business can prove to be a boon for income generation, especially for small and marginal farmers. With this business, farmers can increase their income manifold in a very short time. He said that along with crop production, goat rearing can be a profitable venture for farmers. Dr. Shahji Fund, Senior Scientist MANAGE Hyderabad Agri Clinic and Agri Business Center, along with various programs run by the institute, were given detailed information. Professor Directorate of Extension Education Dr. B.D. Singh welcomed the guests and informed the participants about the detailed outline of online training and various programs being run in coordination with MANAGE. During the training, the scientists of the University’s Veterinary and Animal Husbandry College and MANAGE gave detailed information about the improved breed of goats, housing and food arrangements, proper care of goat kids, breeding, value-added products of goat milk and meat, major diseases of goats and their diagnosis, various schemes run by the government related to goat rearing. About 45 participants from states like Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra etc. participated in this virtual training. Among the participants were scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, officials of Animal Husbandry Department and ATMA, entrepreneurs, representatives of startups, representatives of voluntary organizations, progressive farmers.
