ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources celebrated its 41st Anniversary Foundation Day on the occasion of Matsya Dwadashi, a day of profound cultural and spiritual significance today. The event underscored the institute’s mission to conserve and sustainably manage India’s invaluable aquatic genetic resources.

Dr A. K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi, graced the event as the Chief Guest, whereas Dr S. D. Singh, Former Assistant Director General (Inland Fisheries), and Dr W. S. Lakra, Secretary, NAAS, and Former Director, ICAR-NBFGR and ICAR-CIFE, were among the Guests of Honor and Special Guest, respectively.

Dr A. N. Mukhopadhyay, Former Vice-Chancellor, Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat; Dr A. G. Ponniah, Former Director, ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources & ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture; Dr A. K. Singh, Former Director, ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research; & Distinguished Directors from other institutes were also present during the programme.

Dr U. K. Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, urged attendees to pledge their dedication to conserving aquatic genetic diversity, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation for a sustainable future.

The day concluded with a collective sense of pride, inspiration, and renewed dedication as the ICAR-NBFGR family continues to build on its legacy of excellence and innovation.

An open house was arranged for over 500 students, creating awareness on fish conservation.
