The 100th anniversary of ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai, was graced by the presence of Honourable Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President of India. In his address, Shri Dhankhar emphasized the challenges faced by farmers and the vital role of ICAR in supporting them. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation and stressed the need to provide farmers with technical and economic assistance. The Vice-President urged ICAR and Agricultural Universities to collaborate to help farmers add value to their produce and secure fair prices, recognizing the importance of empowering farmers in India’s growth.
During the event, the Vice President of India unveiled three important publications. Additionally, Shri Dhankhar, planted saplings as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.
Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare & Rural Development; Shri Ramnath Thakur, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare; Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR); Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, Governor, Maharashtra; and Dr S.N. Jha, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Engineering), ICAR were also present during the programme.
At the same time, the Pilot Plant Facility for Protein Extraction and the Genome Editing Laboratory were inaugurated by Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), designed to advance cutting-edge research into practical market applications through translational initiatives. In the morning session, a panel discussion on ‘Post-harvest Processing of Cotton in Amrit Kaal’ took place. During the award ceremony, the dignitaries unveiled three publications and a Cotton Dashboard.
As part of the institute’s Centenary Celebration, ICAR-CIRCOT RAFTAAR Agri Business Incubator hosted the Agri Startup Conclave 2024 on 3rd–4th December 2024, under the theme Fuelling Agri-Innovation: Empowering Entrepreneurial Passion for a Sustainable Future. The event showcased 30 pioneering startups, each presenting advancements in agricultural innovation.
Around 400 delegates from across the country, participated in the grand concluding ceremony of ICAR-CIRCOT’s centenary celebration.
