The Department of Resource Management and Consumer Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), imparted training on ‘Millets Based Recipes’ to school children in Government Multipurpose Senior Secondary School, Lakkar Bazar, old Ludhiana, today. The training was organized under All India Coordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture (AICRP-WIA).

Dr Shivani Rana, Scientist in the department, delivered a lecture on the “Importance of including millets in diet of children and adults”. She emphasized how intake of these grains and their flour could enhance the quality of nutrients in diet, potentially improving the health and Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of school going children.

During the event, two millet based recipes namely ‘Roasted Millet Mix’ and ‘RagiPinni’ was demonstrated by Dr Rana along with distribution of literature on millets assisted by Young Professionals, Drs AditiSewak and Shikha Sharma. The students keenly listened to the lecture and expressed enthusiasm for receiving further nutritional guidance.

Mr Sukhmandar Pal Brar, Principal of the school, appreciated the initiative taken by PAU scientist. Mrs Cherry Mittal, a lecturer of Physics, and Mrs Ritu Jindal, a lecturer of Mathematics, encouraged the students to participate in such trainings and thanked PAU scientist for imparting such an insightful training.
