PAU-FASC Sangrur conducted a kisan goshti focused on “Nutrient, pest, and weed management in wheat, potato, and pea crops” in the village of Bimber on December 2, 2024. Dr. Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist and In-charge of the Farm Advisory Service Centre in Sangrur, provided guidance to farmers on managing the Phalaris minor weed in wheat crops. He highlighted the critical need to address manganese deficiency in wheat through foliar applications, especially in soils with lighter textures, while advising against the application of boron in wheat cultivation. Furthermore, farmers received information on managing the pink stem borer and were encouraged to use PAU-recommended pesticides for effective pest control. It was recommended that urea be applied during the first and second irrigations based on soil test results. Farmers posed various questions, including those concerning the use of nano-urea, the necessity of sulfur fertilizers, methods for soil and water sampling, identification of manganese and zinc deficiencies, and the application of potassium nitrate in wheat production, all of which were thoroughly addressed. Additionally, PAU literature was made available for purchase by the farmers. The event also featured the exhibition and sale of mineral mixtures, UMMB, and bypass fat. Inspections of fields growing potato, wheat, and pea crops in the villages of Bimbro, Bharo, and Noorpura revealed no reported cases of pest infestations or nutritional deficiencies.
