Objectives of the training
1. To teach practical know-how on quality seed production in Watermelon, Muskmelon, Ridge Gourd, Bitter Gourd, Cucumber, Garkins, Bottle Gourd and Pumpkin
2. To improve expertise in commercial F, hybrid seed production in Watermelon, Muskmelon, Ridge Gourd, Bitter Gourd, Cucumber, Garkins, Bottle Gourd and Pumpkin
Prospects of the training
Crops belonging to family Cucurbitaceous are known as ‘Cucurbits’. Cucurbits consists of a wide range of vegetables, mainly Muskmelon, Water melon, Ridge Gourd, Bitter Gourd, Cucumber, Garkins, Bottle Gourd and Pumpkin. In this training we are focusing on
1. Knowledge on floral biology, anthesis, emasculation and pollination
2. Pollen collection and storage
3. Systems of hybrid seed productions
4. Crop management for hybrid seed production
5. Seed extraction, treatment and storage
6. Sex forms in cucurbits and their maintenance
7. Maintenance of parental lines
Scope of training
1. Seed production by hand emasculation and hand pollination
2. Expose to seed production by open pollination by insect
3. Practical visualization of sex forms in cucurbits
4. Quality seed production for high commercial value
5. Highly useful for young entrepreneurs, UG, PG, PhD students, agriculture or horticulture graduates/diploma holders/ SHG women
6. Trained/skilled personal will be of great help for seed production industry
7. Training for production of quality seeds
