A five-day program to familiarize farmers with crop residue management practices was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur under the guidance of Director Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR-Attari, Zone 1, Ludhiana. The training program was conducted from 16.09.2024 to 20.09.2024 at Camper, an adopted village of District Sangrur. During this training, 25 trainees from the village were trained to manage paddy waste using various methods and machinery. This training was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Sangrur.
Warmly welcoming the farmers participating in the training, he explained the importance of crop residue management in the current situation and the harmful effects of paddy residue burning on the environment as well as soil health. He also discussed the economic considerations of different methods of sowing wheat after paddy harvesting. He informed that “CRM Machinery Bank” has been established at KVK. From where marginal and small farmers can manage the stubble efficiently in their fields by taking agricultural machinery on reasonable rent. He further said that more than 200 demonstrations of stubble management will be held in their fields by KVK in partnership with farmers in the coming harvest.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Farm Machinery and Power Engineering) played the role as coordinator of the training programme. He made the trainees aware about the ill effects of paddy residue burning and various farm machinery like super sms combine, happy seeder, super seeder, smart seeder, mulcher for managing paddy residue in the field. , shared the details of cutter cum spreader and rotary plough. He also removed the fears and doubts of the farmers regarding the use of different machinery in the field.
Dr. Rukinder Preet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) shared information on the use of urea and other micronutrients in wheat grown in stubble fields. He also shed light on comprehensive weed management in wheat.
Dr. Damanpreet Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Sunam shed light on the Farmer Welfare Schemes of the Agriculture Department. He also gave information about the subsidy scheme for purchasing CRM machinery and how to apply online.
Dr. Gurbir Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) gave information about the modification of wheat seed sown in stubble and prevention of pink blight as well as various diseases of wheat crop and their proper management.
Dr. Ravinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) informed the farmers about the use of paddy straw as mulch in vegetables and its use in mushroom cultivation.
Dr. Ajay Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), KVK, Mansa explained the use of paddy straw as animal feed and bedding material in dairy.
Dr. Vitasta, Assistant Professor (Plant Science) shared his knowledge on the use of paddy straw to prepare decorative materials at home.
All the trainees were provided agricultural literature of PAU under CRM project. CRM machinery was exhibited and explained in detail about its proper use.
