Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Fatehgarh Sahib initiated a 5-day training programme on crop residue management for 25 local farmers from September 2 to 6, 2024. The programme, part of the “Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for In-Situ Management of Crop Residue in Punjab” project, is supported by ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana. The goal of the training was to equip farmers with modern techniques for managing paddy straw and preparing for rabi crop cultivation.

Led by Dr. V.K. Rampal, Associate Director (Training), and Dr. Amanpreet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), along with KVK experts, the program introduced sustainable farming methods and the use of advanced machinery such as happy seeders, super seeders, surface seeders, and PAU smart seeders. Farmers also learned about using paddy straw for mulching, and the cultivation of mushrooms and fodder. The training featured interactive sessions, farm visits, and direct engagement with experts. Dr. V.K. Rampal emphasized the pivotal role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices. The programme concluded with the distribution of educational materials and a renewed commitment to sustainable crop residue management, setting the tone for future efforts in the region.
