The three day workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Bihar and Jharkhand being held at Bihar Agricultural University Sabour concluded successfully today. Today’s closing ceremony was presided over by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, President of PPVFRA (Plant Variety and Farmers Rights Protection Authority), New Delhi and the chief guest was DDG Extension (Deputy General Manager, Extension) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. PK Chakravarty, retired ADG ICAR, Dr. Saidas, former Director, Indian Maize Research Institute were also present. Appreciating the extension model of BAU, he said that all the extension models of BAU are working well, many of these models can be implemented at the national level. He talked about developing the Krishi Vigyan Kendra as a single window system and strengthening it further. Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, President of PPVFRA (Plant Variety and Farmers’ Rights Protection Authority), New Delhi, urged farmers to register their local varieties, techniques and practices with the authority. He also appealed to Krishi Vigyan Kendras to help in creating awareness among farmers in this direction and in getting them registered. Dr. Mohapatra highlighted the contributions of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in doubling the income of farmers in the country and in successfully running the nationwide agriculture scheme and said that there is a need to strengthen the Krishi Vigyan Kendra further by removing administrative shortcomings.

Dr. Dinesh Kumar Agarwal, Registrar General of PPVFRA, highlighted the importance of farmers’ rights and registration of farmers’ varieties under the Plant Variety and Farmers’ Rights Protection Act 2001. He told the farmers that if your variety or technology is commercially exploited in any corner of the world, you also get a share of it. On this occasion, many farmers arrived for registration with their crop varieties and their crop samples were taken along with their details. Exhibitions were also organized by various Krishi Vigyan Kendras which were visited by the guests and farmers. On this occasion, Dr. P.K. Chakravarty, retired ADG ICAR, highlighted the significance of this workshop and also praised the extension activities of the university. On this occasion, Dr. Saidas, former Director, Indian Maize Research Institute was also present. On this occasion, books were also released and KVKs and workers who did excellent work were also honored.

Earlier, the Director of Extension Education of the University, Dr. R.K. Sohane gave a presentation based on the extension activities of the University and made the gathering aware of the ongoing projects, training and demonstrations to the farmers by the Krishi Vigyan Kendras operating under the University. The gathering was made aware of the recommendations of the technical session held for the last three days.

At the end of the program, Co-Director of Extension Education, Dr. R.N. Singh thanked the visitors. On this occasion, University’s Director Research, Dr. A. K. Singh, Director Administration and Registrar Dr. M. Haq and other officers were present.
