ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai organised Bihar Kosi Basin Development Project-2 (BKBDP-2), Bihar Government sponsored 5 days training program on “Aqua Business Models for Promoting Aquapreneurship” for fish farmers from Bihar State in two batches during 5-9 August, 2024 and 17-21, August, 2024. Total 32 farmer trainees (All male) attended the course representing different districts of Bihar. This program was envisaged to familiarize them with different aqua business models and promote aquapreneurship skills among them. Total 17 aqua business models consisting of biofloc & RAS models, freshwater fish & shrimp culture model, soil & water quality management model, pearl culture model, carp + catfish mix farming model, aquaponics (fish+vegetable) model, fish seed rearing & management model, farm based feed model, entrepreneurial opportunities in AEHM model, fish waste to wealth model, fish value addition model, aquatic museum & agri-drone demo model, magur culture model, farm pond fish culture model, live fish feed model, ornamental fish culture model and integrated Agri-aqua-poultry-goatary model were presented to them.

The program was inaugurated by Dr. Ravishankar C. N., Director & Vice-Chancellor, ICARCIFE and urged farmer trainees to develop their farm as a business unit and adopt the learnt knowledge and skill on their farm in order to get desired production and income. In his valedictory remark, Dr. N. P. Sahu (Joint Director, ICAR-CIFE) had interacted with farmer trainees and highlighted their needs in order to make fish farming more profitable. He stressed upon the follow up training needs to be conducted for further handholding and enhancing their production and income.

Two fish farm field exposure visits of Mr. Ambar Takalkar at Shikrapur, Pune and Mr. Yadnesh Save, Kosbad Hill, Palghar were organised. Trainee farmers were also exposed to crop farming, poultry farming, horticulture, vermicomposting, beekeeping, goatary, dairying, etc. Trainee farmers also visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Palghar and interacted with KVK experts. All the trainee farmers were evaluated for their pre & post knowledge & skill levels and collected individual feedback for the betterment of this certificate course in future. The program was coordinated by Dr. Arpita Sharma, Dr. Shivaji Argade, Dr. Ananthan P. S., and Dr. Ankush Kamble.
