Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, Patiala organized an agricultural scientist meeting on tomato crop production and plant protection techniques at village Asarpur on 25.07.2024. About 80 farmers from Asarpur, Jogipur, Fatehpur, Kartarpur and Punia villages participated in this meeting. The scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala as well as the scientists of Vegetable Department of PAU, Ludhiana participated in this program. Speaking on this occasion, Professor in charge of Krishi Science Center, Patiala Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur welcomed the farmers and invited them to KVK. Information about various activities like vocational training programs, farm days and farmers fairs etc. PAU Vegetable breeder from Dr. Shailesh Jindal called the farmers PAU. Called for adoption of improved varieties of tomato developed by and informed about scientific recommendations for production of tomato crop. Similarly, Dr. Abhishek, Plant Pathologist (Vegetables), PAU. He shed light on the signs of viral diseases attacking the tomato crop and effective prevention techniques. Dr. H. S. Bhullar, Entomologist (Vegetables) explained about timely identification and treatment of harmful pests of tomato. In this program Dr. Rachna Singla, Professor (Horticulture) shared tips on preparing a healthy tomato nursery. Dr. Rajni Goyal, Professor (Food Science) gave information about the processing of tomato and appealed to the farmers to take measures to increase the price of their crop. Conducting this program Dr. Hardeep Singh Sabikhi, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) urged to adopt comprehensive preventive measures to avoid blight disease after the severe disease affecting tomato crop. In this farmers meeting, progressive farmers from Asarpur and nearby villages Gurmeet Singh, Barinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh etc. informed the scientists about the problems faced in tomato crop production and their solutions. The farmers of the village also thanked the team of scientists for organizing this program.
