ALIGARH August 3: The Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) inaugurated a two-week Capacity Building Programme, funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). The programme aims at promoting research skills and methodologies among participants from across India.
In her presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon highlighted the importance of research ethics, salient features of the National Education Policy and the need for the pursuit of quality in research. She urged the young researchers for effectively utilizing e-libraries and modern tools in social science research.
The chief guest, Vice-Chancellor, RMPSSU, Prof. Chandrashekhar provided invaluable guidance on excelling as a researcher and educator, and shared insights into effective teaching and research practices. He emphasized the vital role of rigorous academic inquiry in the transmission of knowledge and wisdom across generations.
The guest of honour, Prof. B.S. Chaudhary, Department of Geophysics, Kurukshetra University, discussed the application of geospatial technology in social science research, with special focus on its significance for sustainable development.
Prof. Quamrul Hassan Ansari, Dean, Faculty of Science, AMU highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards in research, emphasizing that the programme would equip social science educators with the necessary tools for producing quality research papers and effective project proposals.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. Nizamuddin Khan, Chairperson, Department of Geography and the Course Director, provided an overview of the programme, emphasizing its core aims and objectives, which include equipping young educators and researchers with the latest updates in their fields.
Dr. Mumtaj Ahmed, the Course Co-Director, outlined the key areas of the programme, including improving capacity for writing research papers and book reviews, developing skills for planning and authoring books and building methodological research capabilities.
He said that around 30 participants from different parts of the country, including Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab, and West Bengal are participating in the programme.
Dr. Ahamed Mujtaba Siddiqu conducted the programme while Dr. Mohammed Taufique extended a vote of thanks.
