08.07.2024 to 16.07 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Amritsar in collaboration with Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and ICAR-Attari, Zone-1, Ludhiana. A 7-day vocational training course on “Poultry Rearing” till 2024 was conducted in which 70 Kisan Virans/Kisan Bibis and rural youth from Amritsar, Tarn Tarn, Gurdaspur and Kapurthala districts participated. This training course Dr. Conducted under the able guidance of Bikramjit Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Amritsar. On the first day Dr. Bikramjit Singh warmly welcomed the participating students and gave information about the working of KVK. He highlighted the importance of poultry farming as a subsidiary occupation in agriculture and motivated the learners to take up poultry farming for income and employment generation. He also appealed to the farmers to make maximum use of the services provided by KVK.

Dr. Kanwarpal Singh Dhillon, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), KVK, Amritsar (Course Coordinator) gave detailed information on various topics to the farmers for successful scientific method of rearing chickens at domestic or commercial level. including breeding and grading, hatching, rearing of chicks, housing and equipment, feeding, broiler production, backyard poultry farming, egg marketing, poultry farming economics, poultry farm record keeping, vaccination program , Diseases of Poultry and their Prevention were included. In addition, during the training course, a method demonstration on “Testing of Infertile and Fertile Eggs by Candling of Eggs” was also conducted.

Ms. Supriya Kamboz (Fisheries Officer), Amritsar shared information about facilities provided by Fisheries Department, available schemes and combined fish and poultry farming.

Former student Sukhbir Singh shared his experience of broiler farming and Bobindeep Singh of layer farming with the trainees about the initial difficulties and contract farming.

Dr. Mohit Antil, AGM, NABARD, Amritsar provided useful information on government funded schemes (NLM) and subsidies for poultry farmers.

Mr. Raman Kaura (Chief Manager) and Mr. Sandeep Singh, SBI Bank, Amritsar talked to the trainees about the banking facilities available to poultry farmers and the process of bank loans.

During the closing ceremony Dr. Dhillon thanked all the participants and encouraged them to take this new venture to new heights in the future. Books on poultry farming were also provided to the learners.
