About ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute
The ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI), an institute affiliated with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, was founded in 1963 and has a Regional Station in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The All India Coordinated Research Project on Tuber Crops (AICRP-TC), operating from the headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is responsible for the validation and scaling up of technologies related to tropical tuber crops across 18 states and one union territory (Andaman and Nicobar Islands) in India. ICAR-CTCRI holds a unique distinction as the only research organization worldwide exclusively dedicated to the study of tropical tuber crops. Important tropical tuber crops are cassava, sweet potato, yams, aroids (elephant foot yam, taro and tannia), as well as minor tuber crops like Chinese potato, arrowroot, and yam bean. These crops play a vital role as staple foods in the diets of people in the developing world, with versatile applications in the feed and industrial sectors. During six decades of existence of this institute, numerous sustainable production, protection, and processing technologies have been developed for these crops, and 71 improved varieties have been released. The agri-business incubator and techno-incubation centre, situated both at the headquarters and the Regional Station, actively promote entrepreneurship among farmers and other stakeholders.
Background
Crop productivity is directly related to crop health. Plant health management involves understanding and overcoming the sequence of biotic and abiotic factors that restrict plants from attaining their full genetic potential. The production system should be viewed as a holistic system to tackle various biotic and abiotic factors. Crop health is the result of the best and timely interventions like addressing soil health problems, use of disease free planting material, early detection of diseases, forecasting of the diseases and seeking suitable remedial measures. There is an ongoing dynamic among soil, water, nutrition and protection of the crop against pests and diseases. If any of these are neglected, then the health of the crop could be compromised. The Division of Crop Protection at the Institute has made considerable advances in the areas of in the areas of crop protection such as early detection, soil health management, identification of biotic factors and sustainable management.

Duration
Duration of the course is five days from 05-09 August 2024. Outstation participants are expected to arrive latest by the evening of 04 August 2024. The participants are advised to schedule their return journey only after 5.00 pm on 09 August 2024.
Eligibility
Staff and students from ICAR Institutes/SAUs/CAU/Deemed to Universities/Colleges/KVKs, State Departments of Agriculture/Horticulture, Entrepreneurs etc. Maximum intake of participants will be 20 based on first come first serve basis.
