Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Punjab Agricultural University,10.07.202 Sangrur, to encourage the mechanized cultivation of paddy by the progressive farmers of village Balad Kalan. Gurpreet Singh and S. Organized a farm day at Rajveer Singh’s farm. In which about 40 farmers participated.

On this occasion, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Sangrur shared his views on the benefits of mechanized paddy threshing while appreciating the farmers adopting mechanized paddy threshing. Meanwhile, he said that the area under mechanized paddy cultivation in Sangrur district is continuously increasing, because with mechanized cultivation, the dependence on labor is reduced and the yield is also higher than the normal cultivation. He also shared his ideas regarding paddy tillering and direct sowing and after keeping water in the paddy continuously for the first 15 days, he encouraged them to plant the field dry after the next watering.

Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) shared information about the method of preparing mat type nursery for mechanized paddy cultivation to the farmers. He also shared information about tractor driven nursery seeder for mat type nursery planting. Apart from this, he also shared ideas regarding mechanical transplanter machines and their beneficial use for mechanized paddy cultivation.

Dr. Rukinder Preet Singh Dhaliwal, Assistant Professor (Crop Science) highlighted the recommendations made by Punjab Agricultural University for weed control in paddy and maize. He also shared ideas about fertilizer and irrigation management in paddy with the farmers.

After this, the views of the farmers engaged in mechanical threshing of paddy were heard and solutions to the problems faced by them during threshing were suggested. Finally, all the farmers who attended the program were thanked and agricultural literature was also distributed.
