The B. Sc. (Agriculture) students numbering 26 from Agriculture College, Aswaraopet were attached for RAWEP 2022 – 23 to KVK, Wyra. As part of course curriculum, students conducted Rythu Sadassu cum Agricultural Exhibition at Vallapuram Village, Wyra Mandal, Khammam district under the guidance and support of KVK, Wyra on 26.04.2023. The exhibition stall was visited by Dr. S. D. Hussain, Associate Dean, Agriculture College, Aswaraopet and other teaching faculty along with public representatives, department officials, farmers and farm women along with Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar, Programme Coordinator, scientists Dr. Jessie Suneetha W, Dr. K. Ravi Kumar, Dr. V. Chaitanya and Mrs. P. S. M. Phanisri and Dr. D. Nagaraju of KVK, Wyra. All of them viewed the models exhibited on various technologies like HDPS cotton, cultivation of tomatoes with mulching and trellis, paired row system of maize cultivation with drip irrigation, various app available for farmers benefit, natural farming, neem-based seed treatment methods, mixed farming, types of mulching, use of yellow and blue stickly traps in chilli, drip irrigation, live models of various pulses, nutri-cereals and forest produce. Large number participated in rythu sadassu cum exhibition which included farmers, public representatives, students, KVK staff and department personnel in the programme from Khammam District. Dr. S. D. Hussain, Associate Dean, Agriculture College, Aswaraopet, Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Wyra, Dr. Jessie Suneetha W, Dr. K. Ravi Kumar and Mr. T. Rana Pratap, REAC member addressed the students and wished them well for their future endeavours. The farmers were sensitised on soil health cards, disaster management in various crops, cultivation of cotton during Kharif, management practices to be followed for black thrips in chilli, importance of millets for dietary diversification and combating hidden hunger, use of various apps for farmer’s benefit and so on. Various public representatives of Vallapuram village and Wyra mandal also addressed the gathering and congratulated the students on successful completion of their program. The programme continued with feedback from students on their experience during the RAWEP period and farmer’s response to students’ involvement in various activities during their interaction with students. Farmer – scientist interaction was organised to clarify the queries related to Vanakalam crops. Also, as part of the programme, “International Seed Day” was celebrated. The aim of this day is to advocate the need for patent-free seeds, biodiversity, farmers rights and to challenge faced by farmers from climate changes. The day serves as a reminder of the vital role seeds play in cultivation along with the need to protect and conserve them. The seed conservation is critical for maintaining biodiversity as well as for providing food security and the sustainable agricultural systems for future generations.
