A seven-day (3rd to 9th April) workshop on “Management and Processing of Sheep Liquid Semen for Artificial Insemination” was organized by 11 Veterinary Officers (3 female and 9 male) of Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry Department today on 9th April 2024 at Central Sheep and Research Institute, Avikanagar. At the conclusion of the training program, Director Dr. Arun Kumar Tomar took feedback on the training given by the Institute to the Veterinary Officers of Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry Department in the field of sheep breed improvement through estrus timing and artificial insemination.

Dr. Tomar appealed to the participants that whatever you did in the seven days from the institute by knowing, learning and practically about various advanced breeds of sheep, goat and rabbit, animal nutrition, animal breeding, animal health and animal reproduction, take it as your own. Go to the area and use it to benefit the farmers. Director said that sheep, goat and rabbit rearing has immense potential for future growth in the state of Tamil Nadu and these potential can be seen on the ground only through you people. And also I requested to inform the Animal Husbandry Department of your state that they should visit Avikanagar Institute with their progressive farmers and help us in disseminating the advanced technologies here in their state.

The coordinators of the training program, Dr. Ajit Singh Mahala and Dr. V. Ralte, gave detailed information about the activities done in the training and the coordinator of the program, Dr. Satyaveer Singh Dagi, Chairman, Department of Physiology and Biochemistry, talked about the technologies developed by the institute in the field of sheep breeding. While sharing information about the other given information. Avikanagar Institute is the leading institute in the world doing research on artificial insemination in sheep and has been training veterinarians from different states across the country from time to time on this technology. Apart from this, recently, in order to make the artificial insemination technology in sheep easily accessible to the cattle farmers, the institute has developed a mobile artificial insemination laboratory Avimel, efforts are being made by the director and scientists of the institute to reach it to every corner of the country.

At the end, certificates were distributed by the Director to all the trainees on the concluding day of the training. The program was conducted by Dr. Suresh Chand Sharma and the vote of thanks was done by Dr. Ralte. In the program, Department Head of Animal Health Department, Dr. Ganesh Ji Sonawane, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Leelaram Gurjar, Dr. Arvind Soni, Chief Finance Officer Rajkumar etc. along with employees of Physiology and Biochemistry Department were present. Avikanagar’s media in-charge Dr. Amarsingh Meena gave the information.
