ICAR-National Research Centre for Integrated Pest Management, New Delhi organised two Kisan Goshthis for small landholding Schedule Caste BPL farmers to improve their socio-economic status and enable them to participate in the development process in an equitable manner. These programmes were organized in the SC-dominated areas of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The Majority of farmers undertake farming by taking land on lease from others and follow the rice-wheat cropping system.
On 25th March the programme was organised in Dungra Jogi and Sunana villages of the Bulandshahar District. Uttar Pradesh, wherein more than 250 farmers including women farmers participated.
A programme was also organised in Jagdishpur and Jhundpur villages of the Sonepat District, Haryana on 26th March, 2023 where more than 240 farmers participated.
Dr Subhash Chander, Director, ICAR-NCIPM, the Chief Guest, of both the programmes stressed the extent of losses caused by biotic stresses and the utility of the distributed items. He also exhorted farmers for reducing pesticide use, thereby cutting pest control expenditure, and enhancing crop productivity and farmers’ income. Dr Chander urged farmers for growing millets.

Village Sarpanches of both locations coordinated the programmes.
The programme was coordinated and conducted by Dr Ajanta Birah, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NCIPM and Nodal Officer, SCSP scheme and team members, Dr Rakesh Kumar and Mr Licon Acharya.
Agricultural mechanical tools like battery operated spraying machines, spades, sickles and torches were distributed to beneficiaries, which will help them to become self-reliant and empowered. In addition to this, other agricultural inputs like seed storage bins, tarpauline sheet, animal nutrient mixture and Nano urea were also distributed by the Director, ICAR-NCIPM.
The farmers actively participated and were satisfied with the programme.
