In an effort to promote entrepreneurship development, the Rural Agricultural Work Experience students of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a training camp on the “Value Addition of Fruits, Vegetables and Food Grains” for the women of the village Kila Raipur. The camp saw an active participation of 20 farm women, who were enthusiastic to learn food processing by means of different recipes shared by the students. Students provided first-hand experience in the preparation of squashes and jam from different fruits. As this year has been declared as International Year of Millets (2023), students disseminated information regarding health benefits of millet consumption by distribution of brochures and also shared millet products. Besides, they demonstrated making of recipes of other value added products such as jelly, marmalade, bakery and milk products.
Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, stressed the need to venture into startups to be self-sufficient and economically independent.
Dr Pankaj Sharma and Dr Lavleesh Garg, Extension Scientists, explained increasing of shelf life of processed food products by means of processing. Later, the queries of the trainees were addressed by the students.
