Today 15-10-2023, ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISWC) in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute of Research on Cattles (CIRC), Meerut organized Kisan Gosthi on Natural Resource Management and Livestock Development at a village Manduwala, district Saharanpur(U.P.) adopted under SCSP programme. A total of 150 farmers including more than 50% farm women from said village participated in this programme. The gosthi was inaugurated by Dr S.K. Chaudhary, DDG (NRM), ICAR along with Dr M. Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun and Dr Umesh Singh, In-charge Director, ICAR-CIRC, Meerut. In the beginning of this programme a field visit was conducted by the DDG (NRM) along with Directors and Scientists of both the Institutes and visualized the impact of different interventions like community based water resource development and management, improved soil and crop management, animal husbandry activities, resource centre, etc. taken up by both the Institutes in order to develop the said village as a model village in foothills of Shwalik region. Dr Chaudhary emphasized the importance of soil and water conservation in enhancing the income and improving the livelihood of the farmers. He also appreciated the efforts made by farmers in adopting new technologies developed by ICAR. Various agriculture implements like hand hoe, chaff cutter, thresher, wheel barrow, winnower, etc. and other animal husbandry aids like water pipe, mineral mixture, steel-pan were distributed among 100 farm families.
Dr M. Madhu, Director, IISWC told about the institute efforts in developing communing based irrigations system for the village which has helped in diversifying the agriculture with higher water use efficiency. DrUmesh Singh spoke about collaborative efforts of both the Institute and highlighted the work of CIRC in the adopted village. He apprised about training of farmers in locally processing milk to produce Cheese and Ghee which has enhanced the income of the farmers. Dr Sanjeev Verma, Principal Scientist highlighted the importance of livestock in enhancing the farmers income. Dr D.V. Singh stressed upon water conservation and community organization and apprised about the work carried out by IISWC which has helped the villagers in adoption of technology driven agriculture with higher crop and animal productivity.

Teluram, President and other office bearer of Sant Ravidas Kisan Samity, Manduwala welcome everybody and highly appreciated the effort of both the Institutes in providing technological backstopping in community organization, soil and crop management, custom hiring center, water resource development and management and improved animal husbandry activities. Dr Rajeev Ranjan, Senior Scientist, CIRC, Meerut and Mr Inder Singh Chouhan, Technical and Mr Kamal Kishore, Support Staff from IISWC, Dehradun also participated and the programme was conducted by Dr Rajesh Kaushal, Principal Scientist and finally vote of thanks was offered by Dr Gopal Kumar, Principal Scientist of IISWC, Dehradun.
