Under the ongoing Praali Parbandhan Chetna Yatra campaign, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur conducted an awareness programme for mobilization of school students to curb the practice of paddy residue burning at Govt. Senior Secondary School, Mazara Dingrian in block Garhshankar of district Hoshiarpur on 19-10-2023.
At the outset, Mr. Jarnail Singh, Principal, Govt. Senior Secondary School, Mazara Dingrian welcomed the experts from KVK and lauded the efforts of KVK for creating awareness regarding non burning of paddy residue. He also assured full support in this noble cause of awareness to curb the practice of burning of paddy residue burning.
KVK Hoshiarpur conducted declamation, essay writing and painting competition for the school students for sensitization regarding the harmful effects of paddy residue to the environment, soil health, human health and society. A jagrukta rally was also organized by the school students to create awareness for shunning the practice of paddy residue burning. The winners of the various competitions were also awarded for boosting their competitive spirit.
Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Hoshiarpur while interacting with the students, highlighted the harmful effects of burning of crop residue burning. He gave an overview of the different technologies for paddy residue management and briefed about the alternate uses of paddy straw in energy production, as fuel, as fodder, in mushroom cultivation, in paper industry & in biogas plants. He informed that management of paddy residue is of utmost importance at this moment and stressed upon the active role to be played by school students in spreading this message. Dr. Bons elaborated the role of participation of students in various competitions in personality development. The students also actively responded the queries made by himself. He also lauded the students regarding the participation in various competitions.
The competitions were arranged under the guidance of KVK Hoshiarpur staff- Dr. Paraminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science), Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), Ms. Sunita, Programme Assistant (Lab. Technician) and the staff of Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Mazara Dingrian, Sh. Parshotam Lal, Lecturer and Sh. Bhag Singh, Master.
