Under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1 Ludhiana, KVK Ropar organised a district level training programme for secretaries of cooperative societies and FPO members. Aim of the programme was to update them on recent advancements in crop residue management techniques. The training was conducted under the leadership of Dr Satbir Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Ropar.
The event started with visit of participants to the exhibition stalls set up by KVK, IFFCO, entrepreneurs and FPOs of the district. Dr Satbir Singh welcomed all the participants and highlighted the importance of in situ crop residue management and earmarked the need of surface seeding technique for sowing of wheat. He also updated the participants on facilities provided by KVK. Dr Singh also extended the wholehearted support through literature like changi kheti, package of practices and e-magazine kheti sandesh.
Chief Guest of the event, Dr Gurbachan Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Ropar, appreciated KVK’s efforts to arrange for this highly effective platform and shared his views on status of in situ and ex situ management of paddy residue in the district. He appealed the secretaries to motivate the farmers to stringently follow the guidelines of PAU for residue management.
Dr Urvi Sharma, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology) guided the participants about seed treatment and rodent control technologies in the crop of wheat. Er. Jujhar Singh, Assistant Engineer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare elaborated the working of CRM machinery and also shed light on schemes of the department about procurement of the same. Ms. Ankurdeep Preety, Assistant Professor (Agroforestry) and Dr Aparna, Associate Professor (Livestock Production) made the participants aware about the utility of paddy straw in agroforestry and livestock farming. A productive round of discussion among secretaries, scientists, agriculture department and IFFCO added to the success of the training programme. Sh. Lakhvir Singh, President, Secretaries Cooperative societies expressed his sincere gratitude towards KVK for arranging this beneficial training. The event ended with vote of thanks from Dr. Aparna.
