ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun successfully organized a one day exposure visit of progessive farmers from the state of Kerala. A group of 58 farmers comprising 07 women farmers from “Viswamitra Farmers Club”, Kozikode visited the institute. The farmers visited the museum of the institute and interacted about the various technologies developed by the Institute for Soil and Water Conservation and Watershed Management for different agro-ecological zones of the country. After museum visit, the group of farmers interacted with the Dr M Madhu, Director and Dr Charan Singh, Head HRD&SS Division and discussed various principles of soil and water conservation.
In the afternoon farmers visited Kalimati where ICAR-IISWC implemented various interventions related to soil and water conservation and Watershed Management under Institute Village Linkage Programme (IVLP). Through this programme, a sub-surface water harvesting tank was designed and constructed at the village site to store the natural spring water. The farmers shared their excellent experiences after these interventions and apprised that they have been befitted a lot after getting water for farming.
The water harvesting structure is functioning very well at present also and it is managed through water user association. Dr Lekh Chand, Principal Scientist, Dr Abimanyu Jhajhria, Scientist and Mr Dharmpal, Technician coordinated this visit. The field visit of the farmers was coordinated by Sh Suresh Kumar, Chief Technical Officer. This exposure visit was organized under the active guidance of Dr M. Madhu, Director of the Institute and Dr Charan Singh, Head HRD&SS Division.
