A five-day Vocational Training Programme on “Mushroom Cultivation as Subsidiary Occupation” conducted from September 04 -11, 2023 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mansa, concluded today. Dr Gurdeep Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Mansa, who pioneered the programme, shared that a total of 30 farmers and farm women from different villages of district Mansa attended the programme to glean informative know-how about mushroom cultivation and lucrative marketing techniques.
Dr BS Sekhon, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) delivered extensive information on the importance and scope of mushroom cultivation. He discussed various aspects of mushroom cultivation including compost preparation, spawning, casing, harvesting, packaging and marketing. Practical demonstrations were also conducted on compost preparation of button mushroom, filling of bags and spawning in case of dhingri mushroom.
Dr Gurdarshan Singh, Associate Professor (Horticulture) Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Faridkot, threw light on the design of mushroom shed. He also shared valuable information on disease and insect management in mushroom cultivation.
Dr Balbir Singh, Assistant Director and Dr Parmesher Bhatia, HDO, Horticulture Department, Mansa, discussed various subsidy schemes of the Department of Horticulture. S. Jashanpreet Singh, a progressive mushroom grower, shared his practical experiences on button mushroom cultivation with the trainees. S. Baljit Singh and S. Jagdeep Singh, young farmers practicing the cultivation of mushrooms, also shared their views regarding their first-hand experience on compost preparation and its marketing aspects. Literature on mushroom cultivation was also distributed among the farmers. The participants of the Training Programme expressed their gratitude to the organizers for the successful conduct of the training programme that had imparted much knowledge to them with regard to mushroom cultivation and agribusiness in this field.
