11 July 2023 The 23rd Indian Fish Farmers Day was celebrated at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology’s Constituent Fisheries College, Udaipur. On this occasion, the Dean of Fisheries College, Dr. B.K. Of. Sharma, Former Dean Dr. S. Of. Sharma and co-professor Dr. M. L. Ojha, staff and students of the college were present. On this occasion, Dean STO Sharma told that for the first time in the country on July 10, 1957, fisheries scientist Professor Hiralal Chaudhary and colleague Dr. K. H. Alikunhi successfully induced breeding with the help of pituitary hormone in the Indian major task fish at Angul, Orissa. He said that in memory of this important cooperation of Dr. Hiralal Chaudhary and Dr. Alikunhi, every year Fish Farmer’s Day is celebrated in India. Former Dean Dr. S. Of. Sharma said that the purpose of the Fish Farmers Day is to express respect to the people involved in aquaculture like fisher brothers and sisters, fish farmers, fish scientists, subject experts and other stakeholders. Along with Dr. S. Of. Sharma told about the bright future opportunities of the students in fisheries and the progress in the economic sector.
Dr. M.L. Throwing light on breeding, Ojha explained how induced breeding brought a revolution in fish farming in our country and because of that today India ranks second in fish production in the world. He provided information on the history and scientific method of induced insemination. On this occasion, students of Te Windows College Ramjas Chaudhary, Vikas Kumar and Lakshya expressed their views.
