ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research, Regional Station, Sirsa organized the 4th interface meeting on enhancing cotton productivity under changing climatic scenario in north zone  today.

Dr B.R. Kamboj, Vice-Chancellor, Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar; Dr Prashanta Kumar Dash, Assistant Director General (Commercial Crops), ICAR; Dr Rajbir Garg, Director, Research, CCSHAU, Hisar; Dr Vijay Prakash, Director, Research, Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner; Dr Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-I& II; Dr MM Sundaria, Director, Research, Jodhpur Agriculture University; and Dr Pankaj Rathod, Punjab Agricultural University, RRS Faridkot, graced the occasion.

Dr Y.G. Prasad, Director, ICAR-CICR, Nagpur,  highlighted the burning issues that cropped up in the current season and the need for reorienting cotton production agronomy in the north zone.

The prevailing cotton issues like canal water availability, performance of Bt cotton hybrids, soil health,  insect-pest and disease management, production and protection technologies, and extension activities were discussed by the officials from State Agriculture Department, Seed companies, Pesticide companies, NGOs and progressive farmers of the North Zone.

Cotton Stalk management to reduce the carryover of Pink Bollworm  in the ensuing season was also discussed in detail. The meeting was concluded with the recommendation that, the proper management of nutrition, sucking pests, diseases, and pink bollworm (PBW) for the next 20–25 days during the season is crucial for achieving better productivity in the North Zone.
