The 27th Research Council meeting held on 19-20 June 2024 was formally inaugurated today on 19.06.2024 in the main auditorium of Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour by lighting the lamp by the Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. D.R. Singh. Famous experts from outside, Dr. C.P. Sachan, former Dean (Agriculture), Chandrashekhar Azad Agricultural and Technical University, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. R.S. Singh, former Chief Scientist and Head, ICAR-NBSS & LUP, Udaipur, Rajasthan, Director Research Dr. A.K. Singh and two progressive women farmers, Smt. Neetu Devi, Kumari Sangeeta and Shashikumar were also present in this function.
At the beginning of the inaugural session, the Vice Chancellor welcomed both the invited experts by presenting them with a bouquet, a garment and a memento.
The meeting of the Research Council is held twice every year – at the beginning of Kharif and Rabi seasons. In this meeting, the progress of various projects running in the university is discussed, the format of new projects is decided to solve the problems of farmers and new varieties and developed technologies are also released for farmers. All these works are mainly successful due to the efficient operation of the Director Research under the guidance of the Vice Chancellor. Welcoming all the dignitaries in this important meeting, Director Research, Dr. Anil Kumar Singh told about the research work going on in the university. He told that a total of 390 projects are going on in the university, out of which 270 have been completed and this year a total of 210 new projects are going to be approved in Kharif. He also told that as a result of the efficient direction of the university, Katarni paddy and litchi producers have also been awarded by the President. The Directorate of Research is continuously working in the interest of farmers and as a result of that, in the short span of thirteen years of the university, 5 products including thirteen patents have received GI certificates, 69 technologies have been released and varieties of maize, mango, brinjal, garlic have also been released.
Dr. R.S. Singh in his address stressed on conservation of natural resources, development of Tal and Diara areas and praised the work being carried out by the university in those areas. Dr. C.P. Sachan suggested that new technologies should be developed and new varieties should be increased while taking along the traditional technology. In this work, coordination and cooperation of all the departments is necessary. He advised to promote seed replacement and include low water crops in crop diversification. Dr. Sachan emphasized on developing such technology which is within the purchasing power of the farmers and is also beneficial for sustainable production.
In his presidential address, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. D.R. Singh advised to develop varieties and techniques keeping in mind the climate change. He also suggested to develop techniques to promote Kharif maize production.
The Vice Chancellor also emphasized on the conservation of traditional crops and traditional technical experiences. In his address, he gave the message that only those seeds should be produced which are in demand by the farmers. He also advised to demonstrate fertigation technology for water resources in a large area, to make insecticides and anti-disease medicines from traditional plants and medicinal plants and to promote intercropping. He also instructed the students of M.Sc. and Ph.D. to spend 10% of their time in the laboratory. At the end of his address, he advised all the new scientists to work as project leaders/investigators with their senior scientists.
After the inaugural session, the technical session started in which the concerned scientists are discussing the progress of the project one by one. This meeting will continue till tomorrow, 20.06.2024.
