Today, on 05/08/2023, the 14th Foundation Day ceremony was organized at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour. On this day in 2010, the foundation stone of Bihar Agricultural University was laid by Honorable Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Nitish Kumar with the aim of all-round development of agriculture and farmers in Bihar. The Chief Guest of today’s program, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Government of Bihar, said in his address after visiting the campus for two days that “Foundation Day gives us an opportunity to review our work and the achievements of this university. The list of achievements is never ending and this is a big thing for here. At the same time, the chief guest said that whatever we saw and understood during our visit here, I can say with confidence that I am going to learn a lot from here. The Honorable Secretary talked about reviewing the cropping system by effectively implementing the Climate Friendly Agriculture Program. In this program, Joint Secretary of Agriculture Department Mr. Anil Kumar Jha, Horticulture Director of the Department and OSD to the Honorable Agriculture Minister, besides the District Officer of Bhagalpur also participated as guests.
The foundation day program was started by the honorable guests by lighting the island. In the welcome speech, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr. D.R. Singh, remembering the founder Vice-Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, Dr. Mevalal Chowdhary, said that today we are working in such a better way only on the foundation laid by him of a wonderful structure. Honorable Vice-Chancellor said that the older the institution is, the more its dignity increases. Today our university has completed 13 years and has entered the 14th year, our university has created a masterpiece by developing 32 varieties of different crops in its teenage years. He thanked the Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Government of Bihar, for conducting a thorough inspection of the University for days. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor also urged the Secretary to give recognition to 20 departments without any additional expenditure by expanding the existing 15 departments in the University.
Release of website, book and packaging:
Climate friendly agriculture program book and coffee table book were released in this program. Along with this, the brand packaging of Katarni Paddy and Zardalu Mango was released, its packaging has been done by the Indian Institute of Packaging. The website of BAU Sabour in its new format was also inaugurated.
Awarded to teachers, workers, farmers and students:
Today, teachers doing excellent work were honored with the Best Teacher Award, as well as teachers doing better research were also rewarded. The students of all the colleges who achieved better in their class were also awarded. Many innovative farmers were also awarded.
Amount will be given for hostel:
Honorable Secretary said that if there is a shortage of hostels in any college related to here, the government will provide funds on demand. In the same sequence, new rooms will be constructed in the hostel in Udyan Mahavidyalaya Noorsarai.
Gift of roof top garden to Bhagalpur
The Agriculture Department will also include Bhagalpur in the roof top garden program, currently this program is going on only in Patna. Under this, the university will also get assistance for research and making models for roof top gardening.
Students will do practical work in the fields
The students here will do practical work in the farmers’ fields in the initial days of their studies. The Honorable Secretary said that the study of agriculture should not be limited only to classroom and laboratory, but from the very beginning of studies, students should go to the farmers’ fields and work.
Inauguration of lecture hall:
Before the start of the programme, the splendid lecture hall for the students in the university campus was inaugurated by the honorable guests. Two of the total eight lecture halls built on the lines of State of the Art are fully equipped with smart and interactive systems.
