ICAR–Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, organised a workshop today on the ‘Futuristic Approach for Inland Fisheries Informatics: The Role of Tools and Techniques Hybridization.
Dr J. K Jena, Deputy Director General, (Fisheries Science) urged organizing a workshop on big data platform.
In his inaugural speech, Dr B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, emphasized the significance of the workshop and underscored the institute’s contributions to developing big data platforms.
Dr Nabarun Bhattacharyya, Professor and Director, School of Information and Technology, MAKAUT, West Bengal, stressed the importance of addressing cybersecurity and intellectual property rights (IPR) issues related to the web applications and standalone software. He lauded ICAR-CIFRI’s approach, particularly their methodology for developing a generic data science pipeline.
Dr Atul Kumar Singh, Former Director, ICAR-DCFR; and Dr Sudhir Raizada, Former Assistant Director General, ICAR also graced the occasion.
Addressing the critical needs of the inland fisheries sector, this was the first-ever initiative focusing on informatics for inland fisheries.
The workshop highlighted the development of data systems based on environmental and biological parameters, taxonomic information, catch assessment methodologies, and generic data science pipelines.
A total of 60 participants from various ICAR institutes across the country participated in the programme.
