ICAR–Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute organised a training-cum-workshop on ‘Drone Technology and its Applications’ at its Barrackpore, Kolkata, center. This first-ever initiative addressed the inland fisheries sector’s needs, exploring drone technology’s potential in management. The workshop highlighted how agricultural drones are revolutionizing India’s agricultural sector by offering applications such as monitoring, precision spraying, and data analysis, providing farmers with valuable insights for more efficient and sustainable farming.

The Chief Guest, Dr Pradip Dey, lauded ICAR-CIFRI’s approach, particularly its research development using drone technology, which would be helpful for farmers attached with various KVKs under ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata. He also stressed the importance of focusing on the simple use of drone technology demonstrated among the farmers’ community for their awareness about the available drone technology in the agriculture as well as the fisheries sector.

Dr B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, and Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI Eastern Zone, were also present during the programme.

The workshop emphasizes the empowerment of Indian farmers through advanced technologies. These innovations have the potential to significantly boost productivity, optimize resources, and promote sustainable farming practices nationwide. As the use of agricultural drones expands, technology companies play a vital role in modernizing Indian agriculture, aquaculture, and fisheries while also contributing to food security and a prosperous future.

A total of 55 participants, including practicing and former researchers, professors, and scientists from agricultural universities, fisheries universities, technology institutes, and various ICAR institutes across the country, attended the workshop.
