Aligarh, July 6: The Department of Botany at Aligarh Muslim University celebrated Van Mahotsav on July 6, with plantation drive in the historic Botanical Garden. The Chief Guest, Prof. Aasim Zafar, OSD Development, praised the faculty and students for their efforts in enhancing the greenery and contributing to environmental betterment. He highlighted the critical role of plants in human life, both for their aesthetic value and health benefits.
Prof. M. Badruzzaman Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Department of Botany, commended the participation of teaching and non-teaching and students in making the event a success. He emphasized that the increased plant diversity will significantly aid in understanding biodiversity, particularly the taxonomic diversity of plants.
Prof. Zaki Anwer Siddiqui, Member Incharge of Land and Gardens at AMU and a botanist, discussed the vital role of species diversity in maintaining the intricate web of food chains involving plants, insects, rodents, birds, and mammals in the Botanical Garden. The event saw the presence of numerous teaching and non-teaching staff.
Prof. Anwar Shahzad, In-charge of the Botanical Garden, concluded the event by presenting a vote of thanks.
