Krishi Vigyan Kendra Fatehgarh Sahib under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University organised one day training programme on paddy residue management for the beneficiaries of Farmer Producer Organization (FPOs), Registered Farmers Groups (RFGs) and Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) who have availed subsidies or applied for Crop residue management (CRM) machines. The training was conducted on 09.10.2023 at KVK in which more than 60 farmers and farm women participated. Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal Associate Director (Training), KVK Fatehgarh Sahib welcomed the participants and motivated them for management of paddy straw. He gave detailed account of various residue management machines of PAU such as Happy Seeder, Mulcher, Super Seeder, Smart Seeder, Surface Seeder. Technical sessions were also conducted during the training programme. Dr. Ajay Kumar Assistant Professor (Soil Science) encouraged the farmers for soil testing of their fields before sowing the wheat crop. He also emphasized on balanced use of fertilizers for the crops. Dr. Arvind Preet Kaur Assistant Professor (Horticulture) gave information on the use of paddy straw in vegetable production and mushroom cultivation. She also encouraged the farmers for sowing of vegetables and fruits in nutrition garden. Mrs Reet Verma Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) discussed the importance of seed treatment and gave information on the management of rodents in paddy straw fields. Dr. G P S Sethi Assistant Professor (Animal Science) informed the participants on use of paddy straw for preparing feed for animals. He also gave information on the use of paddy straw in dairy farming. Dr. Manisha Bhatia Assistant Professor (Home Science) discussed the use of paddy straw in preparing decorative and various utility items for household use. The farmers were encouraged to see various demonstrations and trails at KVK farm. Dr. Rangeel Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Fatehgarh Sahib was also present during the programme. In the end, Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal thanked all the participants for attended the training programme.
